“El Centro de Todos | A Place for Everyone”
On November 16, 2023 we celebrated the Day Worker Center of Mountain View’s 27th anniversary! We gathered at the Garden House in Los Altos to watch the premier of “Dreams and Detours” which is a follow up to our 2011 documentary “Borderless Dreams.” After the film a few of the workers featured as well as the director participated in a panel discussion. We shared cake, soft drinks and sang along to songs. We also featured a video with updates about the Center since reopening for in-person activities on April 3, 2023! The video was done by volunteers: Anika, Reema and Arman Shah. On behalf of the Day Worker Center, thank you to everyone that joined us and helped make the celebration possible!
We dedicated the celebration to those who have passed, including Alberto Resendiz, fondly known as Don Beto, who dedicated two decades of his hard work and existence as a reliable worker ready to serve.

In 2020, Don Beto was honored during our virtual 24th anniversary celebration. For our 27th anniversary, we remembered Don Beto through his award acceptance video.

Panel Discussion
After the premiere the documentary, Celina led a panel discussion with five of the workers featured in “Dreams and Detours” and Elliot Margolies, who directed the documentary. The workers that participated in the discussion were: Flor, Josefina, Marco, Evelyn and Armando. The conversation was translated by our dearest Dr. Alice A Miano from Stanford University. During the discussion, workers reflected on the Center’s impact in their lives and how the programs at the Center have been beneficial.
Erwin Choc
Our compañero Erwin joined us to sing his original song “El Centro de Todos,” which he composed expressly for the Center, and a few other songs such as “La Bamba.”
Cake Cutting
To end the night, we had a delicious slice of cake from La Imperial Bakery!
